Oh no, not Jedi Academy again?!?
One of the key features of the last Jedi Academy patch was the ability to load code DLLs from within pk3 files, which allowed it to work on pure servers running PC mods. This feature worked in my limited testing, but once people started building Mac DLLs for the 1.01c patch in earnest, they exposed a bug in my implementation.
Turns out that the 1.01c Mac patch would not do the right thing for some zip files created on a PC - notably, the last release of the JA+ mod. As it happens, I had to address this same bug in another Q3 app I'm working on, so I was able to roll the proper fix back into Jedi Academy. I have newfound respect for Carmack's decision to avoid DLLs in the original Quake 3 release in favor of having mod makers use the Quake virtual machine. :-)
I've uploaded a new version here - 1.01d, if you will. It hasn't had any official testing or QA from Aspyr (and likely never will) and it only addresses this one issue. This patch only affects the multi-player app, and as such doesn't include the 1.01c version of the single-player app from the previous patch.
I don't expect it'll make things worse, but you should set your expectations as you would when using any pre-release or untested software. Post any bugs as comments to this thread - don't e-mail Aspyr for support.

okay, this is gonna seem way out of left field -- but I was reading months ago in your blog that KoTOR could not be run in WS mode due to the GUI being hardcoded in the standard aspect ratios. I'm one of those people that got sucked in with the WS graphic on apple's iMac site of course..
This is a longshot -- but what are the chances of the environment/characters being rendered WS while the GUI remaining Standard? Is this an impossible task?
[This is assuming when you referred to the GUI, you meant the icons (force powers, tools, etc) that appear around the screen System Shock style, as well as the tabbed menu when you hit 'Esc'.]
Just a curious,
An unfulfilled 20" iMac 'switcher'.... ;)
Thanks for the writing. I read it often.

"This is a longshot -- but what are the chances of the environment/characters being rendered WS while the GUI remaining Standard? Is this an impossible task?"
Not impossible, no. I experimented with this approach initially. Let's say that you're running a widescreen resolution - 1600x1024. I can pick the "best fit" GUI resolution, which is 1280x1024. What happens in that case is that the right-most GUI elements end up floating about 2/3rds of the way across the screen, right where they'd be if you weren't running a widescreen resolution. It looks a bit odd, to say the least.
Furthermore, the largest GUI resolution KOTOR has data for is 1280x1024, so if you're running a very large display like the 30", those elements (and some of the bottom-most ones) float around the middle of the screen.
I'm kinda hoping that maybe some of the OpenKnight tools that are being created for Neverwinter Nights can eventually be hacked to generate new KOTOR UI lyt files, but I haven't researched this much.

Hmm. That more or less confirmed my suspicions. Indeed I'll hope some unofficial patch comes out some day. Will check into the OpenKnight stuff.
cheerio and thanks for the response!

Hi Brad, umm you may be displeased to hear this, but with JKJA 1.01d a new problem seems to have cropped up: without exception, when disconnecting from a server or exiting to the main menu, the game just up and quits. An error message appears saying: "Jedi Academy cannot continue -- You have been dropped from server -- Reason: disconnected from server"
Any ideas?

yes i can confirm this new bug- when you try to use the menu to exit a server back to the main menu, it quits out to the finder instead with the error noted above. other than that it's working great so far.

Thanks for the heads-up DZ. You a fan of FZ by chance?

Further field report: I am getting a host of error messages that I have never encountered before 1.01d -- things such as CVAR errors etc. -- they are too many to remember right now, but I will start writing them down so I can post some of them. I wonder if the MAX PATCH PLANES workaround is coming at a price??

The second problem you mention is unusual, but vague. It's definitely not related to any fixes in 1.01d, and I'd bet that it is related to a 3rd party MOD you are trying to use, but which was either ported to the Mac incorrectly or did not load correctly.
It's hard to say without knowing more. More to the point: my blog is not the place to have this discussion, because I need a lot more information from you which would best be served via e-mail support. Contact me at bradman@pobox.com and we'll take it further.
