Goodbye, Cotton

Sad news in Phoenix - Cotton Fitzsimmons passed away on Saturday. I guess I hadn't been following the news very closely, because I didn't even realize he was ill. The Suns home page is also running a nice retrospective.

I'm a big fan of the Phoenix Suns. One of my friends worked for them for many, many years and I've been to a ton of games, a lot of them during the Cotton era. When he later moved on to doing color commentary beside Al McCoy, I learned many basketball terms, like "spread the floor and penetrate" and "he needs to come out for a blow."

He was such a likable and personable guy and easily my favorite Suns coach. Thanks for the memories, Cotton.

Cotton was a good man and he will be missed. Moment of silence...

Didn't know you were a Suns fan. Basketball is a obsession of mine and I must say that I think the Suns will be a blast to watch this year.

They've needed a true point ever since KJ retired and they'll have it in Nash. I can't say enough aboot him, eh... that was a huge FA pick up. JJ is really coming into his own and this year he'll be a solid 2 and great team player... just needs to improve his D a little. I've been watching Marion since his college days at UNLV and I think he's the best all around true SF in the L. And Amare is a manchild. Look for him to have a breakout year as long as he stays healthy. The Suns have also done well with recent draft picks and have some serious young talent waiting in the wings with Leandro, Zarko and Lampe. All three should see some increased PT this year and develop into legit starters in a few years. It'll be fun to watch them this year.

Brad...remember the time you and I went to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS...that was awesome...

Remember the time when Dave used to hook you (us) with tix all the time and we'd go to the games...that was awesome...

Remember the time we caught shawn on the couch playing with his titty...that was awesome!

I always liked Cotton. Really good guy. I was actually expecting them to name him head coach again the last few years.
